Unlikely Allies: How a Food Bank, Rowing Center, and Burger Stand are Strengthening Community Together

Central Texas Food Bank, Texas Rowing Center, and P. Terry’s Burger Stand are three vastly different entities, but there is one unifying idea that connects them all: community.

The Central Texas Food Bank is a non-profit organization that aims to end hunger in the community by providing food and resources to those in need. According to their website, in Central Texas alone, there are over 400,000 people who are at risk of hunger, and the food bank has provided over 39 million meals to those in need in the past year. They rely heavily on community support and donations to continue their mission.

The Texas Rowing Center, located on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, is a community-oriented center that offers rowing classes and rentals for all skill levels. They also host events and programs that bring the community together, such as their annual Rowing Dock Bash, which benefits local non-profits.

P. Terry’s Burger Stand is a local Austin fast-food chain that prides itself on using fresh, local ingredients and giving back to the community. They donate a portion of their profits to local non-profits and have even created their own foundation, The P. Terry’s Foundation, which supports education, the arts, and the environment in the Austin community.

At first glance, these three entities may seem unrelated, but they all share a common goal of supporting and strengthening the community. The Central Texas Food Bank relies on community support to provide food to those in need. The Texas Rowing Center brings the community together through events and classes. P. Terry’s Burger Stand gives back to the community by donating to local non-profits and supporting education and the arts.

In a world where individualism often reigns supreme, it’s refreshing to see organizations that prioritize community. As former President Barack Obama once said, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” By supporting these community-oriented organizations, we can be the change we want to see in the world.
